Connection Always Wins: Takeaways from HLTH 2023

"Connection always wins" was the resounding message at HLTH 2023, the annual event that convenes the healthcare ecosystem.

From data sharing to patient engagement and collaboration, HLTH 2023 showcased how connections can drive big wins in outcomes.  

Connecting health-related real-world and research data. ‍

Better integration and use of health-related real-world and research data, including genomics, is critical for improved clinical outcomes. We learned about the NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy, which takes effect in 2023, and the Sequoia Project's "Data Usability Implementation Guide" that improves the ability for patient data to flow so it's more usable by clinicians as they treat patients. These exhilarating initiatives validate our own efforts to leverage data analysis and reporting to identify disparities, inform interventions, and personalize engagement.

Connecting patients with their health journeys.‍

Engaging patients in their own healthcare can lead to better outcomes and increased patient satisfaction. Our team attended several sessions that focused on the importance of patient empowerment and patient engagement in improving healthcare outcomes. We know from experience, that by connecting with patients and empowering them to take an active role in their healthcare, healthcare organizations can improve patient outcomes and satisfaction.

Connecting across stakeholders.‍

Collaboration among providers, payers, employers, and healthcare benefit providers is vital for enhancing patient health. At the event, payer leaders discussed fostering innovative partnerships to reduce health disparities, improve accessibility, and cut costs using digital tools. Pharma leaders explored using digital tech and data analysis for better care across the care continuum by collaborating with various stakeholders. This idea resonates with our long-standing efforts to break down silos to transfer public health tech innovations that are improving the health of vulnerable populations to the greater healthcare industry.

Looking ahead, the healthcare landscape is ever-evolving, and the lessons learned at HLTH 2023 remind us of the importance of collaborating with patients and ecosystem partners to maximize our impact.
