No more pills: How Simone transformed her health naturally

Simone's Journey to Better Health

Simone is 58 years old and loves food and traveling. For 20 years, she had to take medicine for high blood pressure. Then her doctor said she might need another pill for high cholesterol. That’s when Simone decided to take charge of her health.

“I told my doctor, ‘No more prescriptions. I’ll do what I need to do to manage it,’” Simone said. And that’s exactly what she did.

Eating Healthy and Fresh Foods
Simone knew her eating habits had to change. “I’m sensitive to salt,” she said. “When I eat out or have fried foods, my blood pressure goes up. But when I eat right, it’s fine.”

She joined a local farm share and started cooking with fresh vegetables. “I get greens, tomatoes, and other healthy produce. Cooking with fresh ingredients has made a huge difference,” she said. Simone also cut back on dairy, fried foods, and sugary snacks.

Her healthy eating habits paid off. “My numbers went down, and I avoided needing more medicine,” she said proudly.

Sticking to a Routine
Simone built a routine to help her stay healthy. She checked her blood pressure every day and took her medicine on time. Scene’s program helped her stay on track. “The program reminded me to check my blood pressure and think about my choices. That helped a lot,” she said.

Making Small Changes
Simone worked on eating earlier in the evening and exercising more. “I used to eat late, and it wasn’t good for me. Now, I eat earlier, and if I’m hungry later, I just have a light snack,” she said.

Even when traveling, Simone stayed mindful. “On vacation, I enjoyed myself, but I also made smart choices. I reminded myself that I want to be healthy and avoid more medications,” she explained.

Simone’s Advice

Simone’s journey wasn’t always easy, but she stayed focused. Her advice to others is simple:

  • “You can’t control everything, but you can control what you eat. Make the best choices you can.”
  • “Start small. Even little changes can make a big difference.”
  • “Stick to a routine. It helps you stay organized and not feel overwhelmed.”
  • “Reach out to your village. I’m blessed to have friends and family who support me. People are often more willing to help than you think. Whether it’s running an errand or just listening, asking for help can make life easier.”

Because of her hard work and support from her village, Simone didn’t need to start a statin for her cholesterol on top of her blood pressure medicine. She’s proof that small steps, healthy habits, and a little help from others can lead to big results.
